Free Horse Racing Tips for Hamilton - 1st August

The 2020 Rose of Lancaster Stakes is the highlight of Haydock’s meeting on Saturday 8 August. This Group 3 race takes place over 1 mile 2 furlongs and 42 yards and seven runners are set to do battle for a first prize of over £20,000.

Morisco is the only 3-year-old in the line-up and he gets a useful 8lb from the older horses. His trainer and jockey also have a good record at Haydock. But his last win came in a handicap off a mark of 93 and that leaves him with plenty to find with some of his rivals.

Certain Lad was raised 5lb by the handicapper for finishing second in the John Smith’s Cup and, while that was a cracking effort, he also had a 7lb claimer in the saddle that day. Ben Curtis isn’t a bad replacement for this dual course winner, but he needs to find further improvement to trouble the best of his rivals.

Crossed Baton has spent most of his career running in this type of race, but his last win came in a weak Listed Race. He disappointed when last seen at Royal Ascot and, while the soft ground is a viable excuse for that performance, his overall profile isn’t convincing.

Zaaki is the classiest horse in the field on a mark of 112 but his best form so far has come at up to 9-furlongs. He’s not appeared to stay the distance of this race when previously tried over that far and, while there’s a chance he will stay now he’s older, that’s far from guaranteed.

Fox Tal has achieved the highest rating of these when reaching 115 after finishing fourth in the Champion Stakes, form which would give him a great chance of winning this race. But the handicapper has dropped him to a mark of 110 after two poor performances this season. This enigmatic character could bounce back to his best at any time, but it’s a case of whether you think his price is worth the risk.

Global Giant looks the obvious one after winning two of his three races since being transferred to John Gosden. He won a Listed Race last time at Newbury and Frankie Dettori takes the ride. But his overall form doesn’t suggest he deserves to be around even-money.

Extra Elusive is our each-way tip for the Rose of Lancaster Stakes 2020. He did finish a length behind Global Giant last time, but he pulled hard in a muddling race there. He should get a better pace to aim at this time and, at the prices, he looks the value bet against the favourite.
