Free Horse Racing Tips for Sandown - 5th July

The Bunbury Cup is a prestigious 7-furlong handicap run on the July Course at Newmarket, and this year it is the final race of the three-day 2020 Moet and Chandon July Festival. The race is named in honour of a former Senior Steward of Newmarket Racecourse, Sir Charles Bunbury who was responsible for introducing both the 2,000 and 1,000 Guineas to racing HQ.

Bunbury Cup 10-year-trends show that no winner has won off a rating of higher than 101, so that could count against ante-post favourite Motakhaayel who is rated 105. Other horses rated above 101 include Vale Of Kent, Raising Sand, Blown By Wind, Card Sharp, Sir Busker, and Mutamaasik.

A high draw has also been favourable in recent seasons, with the last nine winners all being drawn between stalls nine and 20. That narrows down the shortlist to five horses, which are Kasbaan, No Nonsense, Keyser Soze, Arigato, and Kimifive.

Kasbaan is 7lb higher than his last winning mark and is more of an all-weather specialist. Keyser Soze has also enjoyed his finest moments on the all-weather but is at least below his last winning mark. The booking of Ceiran Fallon also catches the eye.

No Nonsense is also a few pounds below his highest mark but he’s yet to produce his best in quickly run races, which the Bunbury Cup normally is. Kimifive is another above his last winning mark and his best run came on the gradients of Goodwood last season.

With doubts around the other horses that are ideal stats-fits, our tip for the Bunbury Cup is Arigato. He’s a horse that has slowly improved with racing, but the 5-year-old has looked a different animal this season by following up a second behind a well-handicapped sort at Yarmouth with two wins at Newmarket. His record at Newmarket is excellent and reads 1, 2, 2, 10, 6, 1, 1, 1 and, more importantly, he’s 2 wins from 2 runs over the course and distance of the Bunbury Cup, including a win on soft ground. He has to step-up again here but looks nicely drawn for a small stable that has won with three of its last 11 runners.
