Introducing Jan (Molby) The Man

Introducing Jan (Molby) The Man

The ball loved him and he loved it.
A real bloke and a proper footballer.

Jan Molby was a football genius; a wizard, a dream – the best passer of a ball, an expert penalty taker, a player with vision, supreme technique and a cannonball of a shot. That’s why the fans called him Rambo.

Have you ever met an aggressive Dane? Ok, Thomas Gravesen, Stig Tofting, Peter Schmeichel, John Faxe Jensen, Nicky Bille Jensen and a few others aside.

Danes are generally carefree and easy-going types by nature. There’s actually bit of Jan Molby in most Danes. Jan Molby had fourteen and a half stone to throw around and he was encouraged to use it. No running around like a headless chicken. This player saw more of the ball than most players in the English league. Certainly when Molby was allowed the time to play the way he liked, he was a treat to watch. Sweet crisp passing. Flicking, spraying the ball around. Pass and move. No wonder manager legends like Sir Alex Ferguson, Howard Wilkinson, Bobby Robson and Brian Clough liked him so much. The big lad could really play!

Molby’s passing ability was honed at Ajax, helped by the legendary Johan Cruyff and at this club he met the likes of Ronald Koeman, Frank Rijkaard and Marco Van Basten. Some trio that!

Big Jan will always be held in high regard for his ability and achievements and we haven’t even mentioned his charity work after his career. The Great Dane has a big heart and that’s why the Scousers love him.

Who in the Red part of Merseyside can forget a fantastic partnership with Steve McMahon. Or Ronnie Whelan? Ian Rush or John Barnes?

Great days watching these guys dominate games after games.
Molby could tackle, pass the ball and score goals. Great goals.
Man Utd. Norwich. It wasn’t actually tap-ins!!

Liverpool fans will always remember great masterclass of passing like Graeme Souness, Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso. You have to include the adopted Scouser and Liverpool ECHO columnist Jan Molby on that list. TV commentators were drooling over Molby’s vision and class and he was bossing the centre circle in many of his 12 seasons at Liverpool FC.

An evening with Jan Molby on the 20th June at City Theatre in Valletta will give you a full insight into his career, to putting on the famous red jersey, to representing his national country, dealings with different managers and what Scouse humour is all about. Jan Molby always dared to be different, and we can’t wait to walk down the memory lane with the popular Danish football star.
