Napoli vs Liverpool - Weds 3rd Oct

Serie A giants Napoli host current runners-up Liverpool in Champions League group stage at San Paolo on Wednesday.

The Naples side come into the game following a 3-1 defeat at Juventus on the weekend. It was their second defeat of the season in all competitions. They were reduced to ten men in the 59th-minute of the game, and it certainly made it easy for the Old Lady.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side could only manage a goalless draw at Red Star Belgrade in their opening group game. They find themselves in a rather difficult group, and it’s rather important for them to pick up a positive result against the Reds.

However, it certainly won’t be an easy task against the Merseysiders, who were runners-up last season. Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have once established themselves as a force in Europe, and it wouldn’t be wrong to say that they are among favourites to win the competition.

The Reds earned crucial three points in their opening game as they defeated Paris Saint-Germain 3-2 at Anfield. Their emphatic start to their new Champions League campaign was further proof that their run to the final lasts season was no fluke.

Up until the last week, the Reds had looked unstoppable this season. However, Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea managed to put an end to their winning run with a win in League Cup and a draw in the league last week.

Liverpool were involved in an intense 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on the weekend. Ancelotti would certainly take inspiration from his predecessor and his former club in his preparations for the game on Wednesday.

The Reds are favourites to win their group, but they can’t take Napoli for granted. The Serie A side are capable of hurting any footballing side, especially at home. It’s still early in the season, but they have a perfect record at home. They have already defeated the likes of Fiorentina and AC Milan at San Paolo. Furthermore, Liverpool have conceded at least two goals in their last four games in the competition. Hence, both sides would feel that they can get a win in this game, and it makes for an interesting viewing.

Both sides faced each other in the group stage of the 2010-11 Europa League. The corresponding fixture ended in a goalless draw, but Liverpool managed a 3-1 win at Anfield.

Napoli Team News

The hosts would be without the services of Ami Younes and Vlad Chiriches. Marco Rui was sent off against Juventus, but he should feature against the Reds. Arkadiusz Milik and Lorenzo Insigne should take the top two positions in a 4-4-1-1 system.

Liverpool Team News

Daniel Sturridge came off the bench to score a stunning equalizer in the game, and he could get a rare start against Napoli. The visitors are without Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Divock Origi for the trip to Naples.

Our Tip

It’s a risky game to call in the results market. However, we expect both sides to find the net, and BTTS can provide you 4/7 odds at Betfair. In the high-risk category, a 2-2 draw at 12/1 odds at BetVictor looks like a decent bet.
