Pragmatic Play Goes Pocket-Sized with Gates of Olympus POP
Pragmatic Play has launched Gates of Olympus POP, a mobile-friendly spin-off of one of its most recognisable slots. According to a review by Bigwinboard, the new game takes the foundations of the original and rebuilds them for smaller screens and a more casual audience — particularly players in regions where smartphone gaming dominates, such as Asia and Latin America.
The most immediate change is the grid. Where the original Gates of Olympus runs on a 6x5 layout, the POP version pulls back to a 3x5 play area. Winning combinations are formed when five or more matching symbols land anywhere in view. The pay symbols include gold gems, purple gems, red gems, rings, hourglasses, and crowns — with nine or more matching symbols paying out between 2x and 50x the bet.
Lower Volatility, But High RTP
Pragmatic Play has dialled down the volatility to a low setting on this release, which according to Bigwinboard results in more frequent hits and a game that keeps moving along at a steady pace. Despite that, the RTP sits at an impressive 97.05% — a strong figure worth noting. Stakes run from $€0.10 up to $€250, though feature buys and special bets have been left out entirely. This is a more stripped-back, no-frills slot experience.
The POP Symbol: Where the Big Numbers Live
The headline addition is the POP symbol mechanic. These symbols appear on all reels, and landing three scatters alongside one, two, or three POP symbols pays 50x, 500x, or 25,000x the bet respectively. That’s a sizeable top prize for a low-volatility game.
The tumble and multiplier mechanics return from the original. Multiplier symbols, worth between x2 and x1,000, remain on screen during tumbles and are added together once tumbling ends before being applied to the win. Notably, the x1,000 ceiling is double the highest multiplier available in the original Gates of Olympus.
Landing three scatter or POP symbols triggers 15 free spins, during which multiplier values accumulate into a total multiplier applied to each winning spin. Two or more scatters during the round add a further five free spins.
There are no wilds in the game — consistent with the original — and desktop players will notice the action is presented in a condensed portion of the screen, a deliberate design choice to reflect its mobile-first build.
