Egypt Coach Hassan Declares Dallas Hotel Incident Closed After Police Apology
Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan has said he considers a confrontation between himself, team director Ibrahim Hassan, and a Dallas police officer fully resolved, after the Egyptian delegation accepted an apology from the local force.
According to The Guardian, video footage began circulating on Thursday — the day before Egypt defeated Australia in the round of 32 at the World Cup 2026 — showing the two Egyptian officials in a heated argument with a police officer at the team’s Dallas hotel. The dispute appears to have started when a player was preparing to take a photograph with a young fan in the hotel lobby, and the officer stepped in to intervene.
While the officer initially approached Hossam Hassan, it was Ibrahim Hassan whose interaction escalated into a shoving match. Dallas police subsequently issued a statement explaining that officers had been called by hotel security over an individual who lacked the required event credentials. The force confirmed the situation was settled at the scene and that representatives met with Egyptian officials to address their concerns.
Speaking through a translator, Hossam Hassan said the team had accepted a police apology and struck a positive tone about the wider organisation surrounding the squad.
