Japan 1–1 Sweden
Japan and Sweden shared the points in a tight 2026 FIFA World Cup Group F encounter, finishing 1–1 after Maeda’s opener was cancelled out by Elanga six minutes later.
Maeda broke the deadlock in the 56th minute, putting Japan ahead and seemingly on course for a result that would have strengthened their grip on second place in the group. Sweden, however, responded swiftly — Elanga drew them level in the 62nd minute to ensure the spoils were shared.
Group F Implications
The draw leaves the Group F picture finely balanced heading into the final stages. Netherlands lead the way on seven points from three games, with Japan holding second place on five points. Sweden remain in contention in third on four points, while Tunisia are out of the running at the bottom with no points from three outings.

Both Japan and Sweden will be aware that the gap between them is just a single point, meaning the final round of fixtures could yet determine which side advances alongside Netherlands from Group F.
