Wissa rescues DR Congo with last-gasp leveller
Portugal and DR Congo played out a 1–1 draw in Group K of the World Cup 2026 hub on 17 June 2026, with DR Congo snatching a share of the spoils deep into first-half stoppage time.
Portugal made the perfect start when J. Neves struck in the 6th minute to put them in front. The early goal gave Portugal control of the contest, but DR Congo refused to fold.
Wissa drew DR Congo level in the 45+5th minute, converting to silence any Portuguese momentum and sending the sides into the break on equal terms. It was a blow for Portugal, who had looked set to take three points from the opening exchanges.
Group K standings
The result means both sides sit on one point from one game, leaving Group K wide open. Colombia and Uzbekistan are yet to play their opening fixtures and sit on zero points.
A full picture of where all four sides stand can be found in the live World Cup 2026 standings.
With three points up for grabs in each remaining match, neither Portugal nor DR Congo can afford to look too far ahead — but both will take encouragement from the fact that a single win could prove decisive in a tightly bunched group.
