Saudi Arabia 1–1 Uruguay
Uruguay rescued a point in Group H of the World Cup 2026 hub as M. Araújo’s 80th-minute equaliser cancelled out Al-Amri’s earlier strike to leave the match level at 1–1.
Saudi Arabia had looked set to claim all three points after Al-Amri broke the deadlock in the 41st minute, giving his side the lead heading into the latter stages of the contest. It was a lead they held for almost 40 minutes before Uruguay hit back.
M. Araújo Denies Saudi Arabia Victory
With just ten minutes remaining, M. Araújo drew Uruguay level in the 80th minute, ensuring the spoils were shared and denying Saudi Arabia what would have been an opening-game victory.
The draw means neither side could separate themselves from the rest of a tightly contested group. As the live World Cup 2026 standings confirm, all four teams in Group H — Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Spain, and Cabo Verde — are locked on one point each after one game played, leaving the group wide open ahead of the remaining fixtures.
Saudi Arabia will feel the frustration of conceding so late having held the lead for so long, while Uruguay will take encouragement from their ability to find a leveller when it mattered. With every team in Group H on equal footing, the next round of matches will be decisive in determining who takes control of the standings.
