Colombia make winning World Cup start
Colombia opened their World Cup 2026 hub campaign in emphatic fashion, defeating Uzbekistan 3–1 in Group K on 17 June 2026.
Muñoz broke the deadlock in the 40th minute to give Colombia the lead at the interval. Uzbekistan hit back swiftly after the restart, with Fayzullaev drawing them level in the 60th minute to set up a tense finish.
The equaliser lasted just five minutes. Díaz restored Colombia’s advantage in the 65th minute, and any hopes Uzbekistan harboured of salvaging a point were extinguished deep in stoppage time when Campaz added a third in the 90th+9th minute to seal a convincing victory.
Group K standings
The result lifts Colombia to the summit of Group K with three points from their opening fixture. Uzbekistan, meanwhile, sit bottom of the group without a point after their first outing.
DR Congo and Portugal each hold one point after one game apiece, leaving the group finely poised behind Colombia. For the live World Cup 2026 standings, all four sides have at least two games still to play.
Colombia will take confidence from the manner of this victory, with three different scorers getting on the scoresheet and the result never in doubt once Díaz struck in the 65th minute.
