The geography
The 2026 World Cup is the first World Cup hosted by three nations and the first across 16 host cities. Group-stage matches are distributed regionally; knockout rounds funnel toward the eastern United States and the New Jersey final.
United States — 11 cities
The US carries the bulk of the tournament — including the final, both semi-finals, and most of the knockout rounds.
- Atlanta — Mercedes-Benz Stadium (cap. ~71,000). Group stage + knockout.
- Boston — Gillette Stadium, Foxborough. Group stage + R16.
- Dallas — AT&T Stadium, Arlington (cap. ~80,000). Semi-final venue.
- Houston — NRG Stadium. Group stage + R32.
- Kansas City — Arrowhead Stadium. Group stage.
- Los Angeles — SoFi Stadium (cap. ~70,000). Group stage + knockout.
- Miami — Hard Rock Stadium. Group stage + R16.
- New York/New Jersey — MetLife Stadium (cap. ~82,500). Final.
- Philadelphia — Lincoln Financial Field. Group stage + R32.
- San Francisco Bay Area — Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara. Group stage + knockout.
- Seattle — Lumen Field. Group stage + R16.
Mexico — 3 cities
Mexico hosts the opening match and three group-stage venues.
- Mexico City — Estadio Azteca (cap. ~87,000). Opening match. Mexico vs South Africa, 11 June.
- Guadalajara — Estadio Akron. Group stage.
- Monterrey — Estadio BBVA. Group stage.
Canada — 2 cities
Canada hosts two group-stage venues and Canadian-team home matches.
- Toronto — BMO Field. Canada vs Bosnia, 12 June. Group stage.
- Vancouver — BC Place. Group stage.
Where to watch — geographic strategy
If you’re following a specific team:
- Mexico’s group stage is all in Mexico (Group A based in Mexico City + Guadalajara).
- Canada’s group stage runs through Toronto and Vancouver.
- USA’s group stage (Group D) is distributed across the US — primarily eastern and central cities.
- The European favourites (Spain, France, England) play their group stage primarily in the US.
The knockout rounds funnel toward the US. R16 and beyond are 90%+ on US soil.
Travel and time zones for bettors
The five-hour spread between Vancouver and Mexico City means simultaneous matches happen at very different local times. For European bettors:
- Mexico City evening matches kick off late UK time (often 1-3 AM BST).
- East Coast US evening matches are reachable for European audiences (late evening to midnight BST).
- West Coast US matches are typically overnight for European audiences.
This is a real factor for in-play betting — books in different jurisdictions handle the same match differently when local matchday audiences are asleep.
